Kaza - Tso Moriri - Leh

 

Manali - Kaza - Parang La – Tso Moriri – Leh - 13 Nts / 14 Days

Grade: Moderate - Strenuous

 

Day 1: Drive from Manali to Spiti’s district headquarters and spend your night in a comfortable camp set up quickly by our staff on the banks of the Spiti River.


Day 2: From Kaza we travel by jeep to visit the Dhankar fort, once the residence of the rulers of Spiti, high above the confluence of the Pin and Spiti rivers. We then continue to Tabo Gompa, one of the greatest artistic treasures in the Himalayan region, to view its paintings and sculptures, some of which are over 1000 years old.

Day 3: Travel by jeep to Ki gompa, the largest in Spiti, and Kibber, famed as the world's highest village with electricity and daily bus service. We spend our night high above Kibber on a lush green pastureland.
 
Day 4:
We begin our trek with a short but steep climb to the grazing pastures above Kibber.

Day 5: Trek to Pangrochen, the base camp of Parang La. Only a small spring sustains life at this high, rocky campsite.
 

Day 6: Trek over 5577 metre Parang La and descend the dazzling Parang glacier to the lovely oasis of Karsha Gongma.

Day 7: Trek down the valley of the Pare Chu (river) to Tarang Yogma.

Day 8: Continue down the Pare Chu, cross the river and camp at the broad oasis of Norbu Sumdo.

Day 9:
Trek to Kiangdam, on the southern shore of Tso Moriri, the "Mountain Lake".

Day 10
: Rest day in the incredible setting of Kiangdam on the lakeshore. Get glimpses of a large number of migratory birds that abound on the lake.

Day 11: Trek to Korzok, the village and gompa at the northern shore of the lake. Overnight camp.

Day 12: Visit the Karzok Monastery and village
Day 13: Drive to Leh via Mahe Bridge
